I fell in love with stories, news and the library as a kid. Growing up in Iowa, I traveled far and wide — with books and stories. The problem was, there were so few stories where people looked like me — a kid of immigrants, just as much American as Vietnamese with a love for fried chicken and chao long. I moved from one form of storytelling to another — novels, newspapers, poetry and back again.
Years later, I found myself in journalism, trying to be the storyteller instead of the reader, hoping to write the stories I never read.
Over more than 20 years, I've built solutions in the form of teams, beats, stories and organizations, all in service of creating systems and communities that let more people see themselves in media. I believe everyone has power, and we can innovate to create a world where everyone sees themselves reflected in the stories we tell.

One for press, event organizers and a shorter version for everyone else.
